The technical name for this stone is the "Heart-Shaped Modified Brilliant," based upon its shape and modifications of the traditional round brilliant configuration. PHYSICAL AND CUTTING ISSUES Ideally, a heart shape's length to-width ratio is slightly over 1: 1, approximately 1.1: 1 in favor of length, but not over 1.2: 1. As with fancy shapes in general, cutting parameters are for the most part determined by the shape and nature of the rough. Cutters are sometimes motivated to cut a heart shape when a large inclusion in a particular location must be removed. By orienting that inclusion to the heart's cleft, maximum weight retention can be achieved. Heart-Shaped Brilliants typically contain 59 facets. | |
